One of the best known and oldest wine producers in Alsace, having been established in 1639. Jancis Robinson says "The Hugel family have long been champions of maximising quality in Alsace's finest wines." This wine has the spice of Gewurztraminer, the body of Pinot Gris and the grapiness of Muscat. Marc Hugel is in charge of wine-making. Johnny, head of the family, is convinced that their wines are made so well, that although wines like this do not improve with age they also do not deteriorate as fast as one would think. He has 10-15yr old bottles that still retain fresh fruit and acidity.
