Originally from the Netherlands, the Niepoort family has a long tradition of port production that began with the foundation of their port house in 1842. Niepoort is very traditional in its approach to making port. Most of the production is farmed organically, and trodden underfoot. The house employs twice as many 'treaders' as the majority of producers in the region to extract maximum colour and flavour. The splendid 2000 is black in colour, with earthy aromas of crushed berries with hints of sweet coffee and chocolate. This palate shows exceptionally long flavours of rounded fruit overlaying powerful tannins. Drink 2008 to 2030.
