The 10 Crus, wines permitted to sell under their village name, of Beaujolais are a joy to drink, and in the "greatest vintage for Beaujolais in my lifetime" (Georges Duboeuf) are not to be missed. Andrew Jefford states "every glass should be as un-put-downable as a good novel - a trumpet blast of pure fruit" and Dominique Piron's Morgon is a fanfare! A vintage like this comes along maybe twice a century but the bad news is the 2005's are fast running out. We unequivocally urge all red drinkers to snap up some 05's whilst you still can, you wont be disappointed. Domaine de la Chanaise is Dominique's flagship, coming from the famous "Cote du Puy" hillside which produces the most concentrated grapes in the appellation. Whilst we love drinking Dominique's wines in their youthful exuberance, he recommends drinking at 5 years old, when they take on an almost Pinot Noir-like character. With a deep purple colour, complex aromas of cherries, strawberries and spice, with a gorgeously ripe and supple palate, this is the essence of great Beaujolais. There is no other wine guaranteed to give more pleasure this summer, but please don't delay as this vintage is most definitely finite.
