Danny Schuster Sauvignon Blanc 2007 Marlborough

Danny is a good friend of mine from New Zealand, where he emigrated to many years ago from Germany. He is an expert on terroir and viticulture and has consulted on wine estates all over the world, including the likes of Ornellia and Opus One. He set up his winery in New Zealand back in the 1980's with a very clear vision; to make wines with individual character that reflect the terroir and growing conditions of the vineyards. This is a goal he has undoubtedly achieved. This Sauvignon Blanc is made in a restrained, rather untypical New Zealand style being soft and rounded and not over herbaceous. It has a pale colour and delicate bouquet with a hint of barley sugar and asparagus. It has a very full flavoured palate with soft Sauvignon flavours and a rounded finish. Good but delicate acidity gives the wines freshness and balance. This is a cool-climate, delicate Sauvignon Blanc that combines purity of fruit with elegance and finesse. I highly recommend this handcrafted white as the perfect aperitif this summer. John Avery
