The blend is 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay. The vines originate from 40% Premiers Crus and 60% Petits Crus. Blending 10% reserve wines aged in oak. this gives a penetrating fresh nose, well structured full flavour of dry fruits and hints of hazel nuts. THe Champagne house Lefebvre, was founded in 1920 and is situated in Hourges in the valle de l'Ardre in the north of Champagne. They have 12 hectares of vines on clay/chalk soils. Lefebvre was bought in 1999 by Gerard Cuperly, who runs his family's firm Champagne Cuperly which was founded in 1845 and he took over aged 18 in 1967, which has 10 hectares of vineyards, including Grand Cru sites at Verzy in the northern Montagne de Reims. Under Gerard's expert guidance Lefebvre is reaching its full potential and producing some high quality Champagne. Lefebvre's wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation, unlike most houses (notable exceptions - Bollinger, Gratien, Krug and Lanson). Champagne must be aged for a minimum of 15 months but Lefebvre is given at least 26 months but often as much as 36.
