Keen Rhone fans will have spotted this bottle prominently featured on the front cover of Decanter's 'Kings of the Rhone' edition (Feb 2007). Another new discovery for us, this 2005 Gold medal-winner is a wine of impeccable quality. Made in a traditional method, it is full-bodied with concentrated black cherry and cassis notes. Its powerful young fruit acquires rich, toasty flavours, culminating in a wine of considerable finesse and elegance. The complex tannin structure ensures great ageing potential. Adjacent to Beaucastel, this wine shares its terroir but not its price. This succulent Rhone has 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault and 10% Syrah. Robert Parker Wine Advocate 173 Oct 2007 88 Points The dark ruby-tinged 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape reveals aromas of plums, cassis, and cherries presented in a medium-bodied, spicy style with beautifully pure fruit, a savory mouthfeel, moderate but ripe, sweet tannin, and a long finish. It should drink nicely for a decade or more. Over recent vintages, I have immensely enjoyed the wines from this estate. Drink from 2008 to 2012.
