Saint Pourcain Pinot Noir 2006

Pinot noir from the little known region of Saint Pourcain. This is a vdqs in Central France near Vichy. The region runs down the western hills of the valley of the Sioule. Set up in 1952, today the cave has 100 vignerons-members and vinifies some 420 of the region's total 650 hectares. This has allowed Cave director Jacques Vigier to enforce a standard of work in the vineyards that is unmatched in any other cooperative cellar in the Loire - grassing through all the more vigorous parcelles and imposing an obligatory spring de-budding (20% less cash at harvest for those who fail to do this!) and an obligatory green harvest where yields seem high - again with a 20% price penalty for those who don't comply!
