Description Made by a family of vineyard owners that have been making wine in the region for generations going back as far as the 15th Century. The Baroncini clan can trace their history in wine back to 1489. For the Vino Nobile the grapes are sourced from the charming hills situated near the Trasimeno Lake within the boundaries of Montepulciano district This wine is a majestic and certainly noble red wine that is made exclusively in the township of Montepulciano 75 miles south east of florence. Winemaker Bruna Baroncini says of the 2004 vintage. 'Our grapes came in super ripe and in perfect condition and once we they had been pressed, they made a wine that was rich, rounded and bursting with fruit. This is probably the best wine we have made in over ten years!' Made from 100% Prugnolo Gentile (a clone of Sangiovese) Vino Nobile has an Illustrious history, having been lauded as a 'perfect wine' by the cellar master Pope Paul III in 1549, by Francesco Redi in his 'Bacchus in Tuscany' of 1685 (he called it 'the king of wines'), and by GF Neri in the late 18th C , who gave it the title 'noble' A deep, ruby-red wine. The style is concentrated and full of the rich flavours of plums and cherry - not at all sweet or jammy, starting slowly but developing and opening out with layers of savoury and spice flavours, excellent texture and a long finish. The wine is stored in big oak cask barrels for two years (by law DOCG rules are that the wine must spend at least two years in large oak barrels) A perfect partner to ripened cheese, wild boar, steaks and game. The wine has been released ready to drink however it can certainly be enjoyed over the next 3 years if cellared correctly. Serve at room temperature, the wine would also benefit from decanting for one or two hours before service as the wine may throw a small sediment which is perfectly harmless.
