Pontificis Blanc 2007 Vin de Pays d'oc

This white has recently joined its red sibling in our range, as a mini-Chateauneuf du Pape white. Burgundian Laurent Delaunay makes his living these days in the south of France, sourcing rare parcels of top quality grapes from old, low-yielding, out-of-the-way vineyards. Having challenged him to find all the essential ingredients of fine Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, we asked him to repeat his winning formula to make us an exclusive white wine. And the result had been splendid. Hillside vines (average altitude of 150 to 200 metres) give the wine a racy freshness, whilst the sunshine ripens its 50% White Grenache, 35% Marsanne and 15% Viognier grapes to perfection. The wine is aged on its fine lees for several months, which gives it delicious richness. 10% is vinified and then aged in barrels for 9 months.
