Barolo is without a doubt the noblest creation of the Nebbiolo grape, and in Marcarini's La Serra it finds one of its most elegant expressions. La Serra is an historic area of ancient origin whose mineral-rich soil is capable of giving wines good colour, structure and flavour, but never excessive tannins. Ripening occurs a bit later than in the Brunate area, resulting in very elegant wines, but always generous and rich. The wine ages traditionally in medium-sized oak barrels (20/40 hl) for at least two years. The wine has a garnet-red color with intense ruby-red reflections, of perfect intensity and tonality. The nose is composite, rich, full and persistent, with hints of vanilla, sweet spices, tobacco, mountain hay and herbacious notes. The palate reveals a noble, warm and velvety character, and the flavour is long and intense. 2004 is an excellent vintage for this wine, which will fast become a rarity.
