IWC Silver Medal 2008 The judges comments: This has a roasted cherry edge and is bright and slightly nutty. A nice refreshing, gentle style of wine This conscientious, leading light of Valpolicella crafts fascinating, delicious wines. Led by 60% Corvina Veronese it has a herby nose and a bitter red-fruit palate. The Allegrini family estate encompasses 80 hectares of vineyard situated in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico area. The family has been growing grapes in Valpolicella for several generations, and the estate in its current form was founded by Giovanni llegrini. When he died in 1983, it passed to his three children who ran it together until Walter's death in July 2003. Franco now looks after the vineyards and is the winemaker, and Marilisa is director of marketing. Winemakers tasting note: "Bright, youthful cherry-red in colour, with open perfumes of ripe, slightly spiced cherries, the characteristic perfume of good young Valpolicella. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, with sweet, ripe fruit flavours which bolster the juicy, fresh acidity and soft, rounded tannins."
