Alion 2004 Ribera del Duero ( Vega Sicilia ) Alion 2004 Ribera del Duero ( Vega Sicilia ) 2004

96/100 Robert Parker.

Alion was created by Vega Sicilia in 1991. Also a Ribera de Duero wine it is 100% Tempranillo aged in new American oak to create a more succulent, modern expression of the region. '2004 Alion is inky purple-colored with an alluring perfume of toasty oak, lavender, violets, mineral, blackberry, and blueberry compote. This is followed by a full bodied, rich, opulent, wine with incipient complexity, and notes of licorice, mocha, and espresso emerging on the palate. The lengthy finish is pure and persistent. Give it 3-5 years in the cellar and drink it through 2025. 96/100 points.' www.erobertparker.com Read more

Barolo Cru Cerequio 2004 Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cru Cerequio 2004 Michele Chiarlo 2004

Outstanding, rich and aristocratic wine that is lavishly hand-crafted.

A single vineyard Barolo often highly rated by Robert Parker. First documented in community records in 1200, there is no doubting Cerequio's supremacy among the vineyards of the Langhe. Michele Chiarlo owns 15 of a total of 45 acres in the Cerequio vineyard. The wine is aged in large, 5000 oak vats in the traditional manner. Over time Cerequio develops an impressive aromatic palette that is both complex and aristocratic. It is ample and rich yet delicate, with seductive ripe black fruit and spice notes and underlying tannic power. Read more

Carillon is one of the finest growers in the Cote d'Or.

Aidan Bell, Fine Wine Manger, recommends this village Puligny from the fabulous 2005 vintage and a star producer. "A great producer whose 2005's are already drinking beautifully. Keep the 1er Cru's back for next year, but this village wine is fabulous now." Carillon makes some of the finest white Burgundy available, and his wines are highly sought after the world over. We have very small allocations of this exemplary Puligny. Read more

Les Hauts de Pontet Canet 2000 Pauillac Les Hauts de Pontet Canet 2000 Pauillac 2000

Young vines from the excellent Chateau Pontet Canet

"Tremendous 2nd wine from the millenium vintage. Tasted just 5 minutes ago, this is now starting to drink really well. The colour is deep and youthful. Ripe fruit still dominates the bouquet but it's starting to evolve aromas of cedar wood and smoke. The palate is full and powerful with a savoury, earthy edge and good weight of fruit. Velvety tannins mean you can drink this already although there's no rush - you could safely cellar it for 5-6 years. Perhaps not the length or breadth of the grand vin, but this is a superb 2nd wine and very good value for drinking soon. The density and class of the vintage really shine through." Matthew Hemming. Read more
