Ballon de Rouge Cotes du Rhone AOP 2011
Cotes du Rhone AOC
Introducing a new concept from the talent behind Domaine de Mourchon. The ‘Ballon de…’ range is based around the idea that in France, especially in the early 1960s in the working mens’ “Zinc” bars of Paris, there weren’t endless complicated choices when it came to ordering – there were simple, drinkable glasses of wine served in balloon shaped glasses. All a patron need say at the end of a long days work is “ballon de rouge!”, and they knew they would get a reliably good drop at a reasonable price.
We thought this idea translated quite well to our lives today – at the end of a long day, sometimes it’s nice not to have to think too hard about what you’re drinking, but rather just to enjoy a lovely glass of well-made, drinkable wine.
Packed with juicy black cherry fruit and just the thing as we head into barbecue season. “The Rhône is one of the best destinations in France for affordable, well-balanced, red wines and this lovely, cherry-ish, peppery example is just crying out for a rare steak.” (Jamie Goode, Wine Critic)
