Viña del Perdon Gran Reserva is made for us by Bodegas de Sarria in Navarra, Rioja’s next-door neighbour Navarra is particularly interesting to wine lovers because due to its location, its wines have been strongly influenced by France as well as neighbouring Rioja. As a result, the wines are often a blend of traditional French and Spanish grape varieties Viña del Perdon has Rioja’s vanilla and spice complexity. But it is blended from classic Bordeaux varieties, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and has a smoothness and elegance akin to classic claret 2004 was a historic vintage, officially rated ‘excellent’ by the Rioja and Navarra Control Board. Aged in American and French oak for two years, this is a complex Reserva with spices, vanilla, plums and ripe red berry fruits. Smooth with a long finish, it will go perfectly with roast lamb or game.
