Those of you who’ve enjoyed the Ballande family’s Château Pey de Faure before will already know it’s a great little find. And thanks to the “absolutely remarkable" (Antonio Galloni) 2016 vintage, the new release is better than ever.
Château Pey de Faure has a fascinating history stretching back to the 16th century
It was when the Ballande family (who also own Margaux’s renowned Château Prieuré-Lichine) took over the property in 1989 that quality really began to soar
Thirty years later, the combination of old vines with a very modern cellar and top end winemaking allows them to make smart Bordeaux like this one that’s among the best value you’ll find
Tasting note: Rich in Merlot, this has lovely aromas of ripe plums and violets with a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc adding structure and finesse. Very smooth and silky with hints of morello cherry and spice, it’s a great match for roast shoulder of lamb or game.
