il Cacciatore del Tartufo Rosso 2017

Torgiano DOC

We all know Tuscany and Chianti, but next door Umbria also makes great wines – superb, classic Italians with a smart modern twist. Our Truffle Hunter is a gorgeous, ripe blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Canaiolo, with dark, chocolaty, cherry fruit.

Since the renowned Antinori (of Super Tuscan fame) bought a property in Umbria, wine buffs have begun to take note of the terrific reds and whites from the region. It lies in central Italy, next door to Tuscany, and is probably most famous for Orvieto. However, in recent years, it has shown its strength to be reds from Sangiovese, Sagrantino and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a bold, characterful red from a winery founded 70 years ago by the Brocatelli and Galli families. Today, under the guidance of the founders' six nephews, they boast 80 hectares of vines in Umbria, 50 of those in the Torgiano hills. This is a silky, rich Sangiovese dominated red, super charged by Cabernet with the silky freshness of Canaiolo. A great pasta or pork red.

"Great choice. Very pleased with this smooth wine which also has some lingering flavours. Recommended" Online Review
