Château La Rose Montauran is the prized estate of the Lasnier family. Current owner Francis took over the reins 30 years ago and has worked hard to build a modern winery and to improve the vineyards. Their 2014 is lovingly crafted from grapes grown on a plot on the left side of the Dordogne river. South facing on the plateau of Jugazan and benefitting from sun-filled days, the vineyard produces grapes that result in intense ripe red fruit and leafy complexity. Using 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a savoury blend that gives this red a classic structure with plenty of intense fruit. Now aged perfectly, it makes a fine partner to roasted or grilled meats, with seasonal roasted vegetable pilaf or a gentle moussaka.
