From a near perfect vintage and a fourth generation family cellar, this is a magnificent, well priced Barolo. It's a pure expression of the Nebbiolo grape from prized Piedmont. Silky tannins support the cherry, plum, dried flower and spice notes.

Beyond the Label
Silky tannins support the dried cherry and plum with spice and violets
Spice and dried flowers marry with the dark cherry and mocha hints
The Sartirano cellar was founded in 1871 and 150 years later is in the hands of the fourth generation, Paolo. He works meticulously in the vineyard to gain the finest grapes. He's also a bit of a scribe, hence the name 'Il Poeta' and the composition on the label. Paolo is a very dedicated winemaker, rigorous in his grape selection. He even found a few rows of an almost extinct grape – Nas-Cetta – from which he makes a few bottles of rare white. His Il Poeta, particularly the magnificent 2016 vintage, described by Vinous as "full of spectacular, breathtaking wines", is a poetical expression of the finest Nebbiolo. Aged over three years in oak barrels, the wine is complex, deeply flavoured and silky. Let it breathe; serve with roast game.
"Full of truly spectacular, breathtaking wines that captures all the pedigree of Nebbiolo and Barolo"
Antoni Galloni, Vinous On the 2016 vintage
