From a near perfect vintage and a fourth generation family cellar, this is a magnificent, well priced Barolo. It's a pure expression of the Nebbiolo grape from prized Piedmont. Silky tannins support the cherry, plum, dried flower and spice notes.

Grape grower Natale Seghesio is known as 'il Poeta' ('the Poet') to his friends. Not only for his compositions (featured on the label), but also for the flavourful grapes he produces in the premium Piedmont hills. Working with Natale’s exceptional grapes, talented winemaker Paolo Sartirano then takes over in his family's cellar. The Sartirano cellar was founded in 1871 and 150 years later is in the hands of the fourth generation, Paolo. His Il Poeta, particularly the magnificent 2016 vintage, described by Vinous as "full of spectacular, breathtaking wines", is a truly poetical expression of the finest Nebbiolo. Aged over three years in oak barrels, the wine is complex, deeply flavoured and silky. Let it breathe; serve with roast game.

"Full of truly spectacular, breathtaking wines that captures all the pedigree of Nebbiolo and Barolo" Antoni Galloni, Vinous
