Château Puy Blanquet is a lovely property located at Saint Etienne de Liss, a few miles to the east of the medieval town of Saint Emilion. Roger Jacquet acquired the estate in 1958 and since his death in 2000 his wife Marcelle has been at the helm. She is assisted by Pierre Meunier, who trained under Jean Pierre Moueix, one of the most famous names in Bordeaux. The wine is made mostly from Merlot for its rich plummy flavours, with Cabernet Franc adding some exuberant, spicy raspberry notes and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon for depth and structure. After fermentation the wine was matured for a year in oak barrels, adding complex notes of liquorice and tobacco leaf. Enjoy with traditional English fare such as roast beef or game casserole.
