‘Le Torrent du Trignon’ comes from Alphonse Barqueros’ prime hillside vineyards in Sablet, just next door to the Gigondas cru. Indeed, it’s just the mountain stream of ‘Trignon’ that separates the two. Soft and velvety, it’s packed with rich fruit typical of the great reds of the Southern Rhône.
2016 is one of the Southern Rhône’s best-ever vintages and consequently, wines like this one from Sablet Côtes du Rhône Villages are knocking on the door of the famous crus of Châteauneuf and Gigondas
Such was the impeccable quality of this red from Alphonse Barqueros that we took the entire UK allocation – you won’t see this wine anywhere else
A blend of ripe, juicy Grenache (80%) and peppery, perfumed Syrah (20%). Half of the wine is aged in French oak barrels for around 18 months giving great depth and complexity without losing the fresh, pure fruits that sing from the glass in 2016
Tasting note: Brimming with ripe summer pudding flavours with just a hint of olive tapenade, this is an approachable southern Rhône red with a seductive soft and supple texture. Perfect with a roast dinner or a selection of cheeses.
