Jaboulet Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert 2008

Crozes-Hermitage AOC

Jaboulet produces some of the northern Rhône's finest wines, its flagship being Hermitage La Chapelle. They also own the fabulous Domaine de Thalabert, whose Crozes is often far better than others Hermitage. A rare chance to taste one of this age.

Founded in 1834, Paul Jaboulet Aîné today continues to have a top flight reputation for its northern Rhône wines. It was owned by the family for nearly two centuries, until 2006, when real estate entrepreneur Jean Jacques Frey bought it. Today, his eldest daughter, Caroline, heads it up with extreme rigor and great results. She has converted Jaboulet's top vineyards firstly to organic and now to biodynamic methods to achieve wines closer to perfection. Domaine de Thalabert is their superb 45-hectare estate in Crozes, the wines of which far excel their appellation. Indeed, their quality is closer now to that of Hermitage itself. Syrah from 40-60 year old vines, grown on stony soils, this is a fine red, now with considerable maturity.

"Rare treat - Crozes with 13 years' age from this superb family estate" Jennie Perry
