Château Le Lion d’Or is a charming, juicy, well structured claret that over delivers on flavour and yet is agreeably modest in price. It is made from 100% Merlot from older vines in the commune of Marcillac. Blaye is a much older wine producing region than the more renowned Médoc, dating back to Roman times The tourist route from Bourg to Blaye is one of the most charming in the region Blaye is an inside tip for immensely satisfying, fruit-forward reds that are best drunk within their first five to six years of life. Beautifully fresh, soft red fruit balanced by seamlessly integrated, savoury tannins, with a nice hint of spice on the finish. Fantastic, everyday claret.
