A rich claret that makes excellent drinking now or will reward cellaring. It's belonged to the same family since 1919. From the 19th century, it was the local mill, where villagers brought their wheat for grinding. Only in the 1940s did the property lose its 'wings' and its wheels and ceased trading as a mill. This ample, silky Bordeaux is just over half plummy Merlot, supported by the cassis fruit and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon, with a touch of herbaceous Cabernet Franc. Ageing in barrel for nine months has lent extra layers of richness, but its appeal is mostly fruit driven. Judges were impressed at Concours d'Aquitaine and awarded this vintage a Gold against stiff competition. Open early and decant. A fine Sunday roast choice.
