Mas Seguala Cotes du Roussillon Villages 2014

Cotes du Roussillon-Villages AOC

A superb, elegant red using Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, from the superior Roussillon Villages in southern France. Lots of spice and herbal flavours wrap through the dark damson and plum fruit, with hints of cinnamon and earth. With rare maturity.

Roussillon is an exciting vineyard region between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. The best wines come from its crus – Maury and, like this one, Tautavel. Remote Tautavel hit the headlines 50 years ago when fossilised 450,000 year old human skeletons were found there. The discovery focused world attention on this tiny corner of the Roussillon – yet its wines still fly under the radar. So the very best reds, like this release, offer exceptional value for money. It’s a classic southern French blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan, that takes a few years to show at its best. Hence this red, with six years age. Already tawny, it has roasted raspberry aromas and wild herb and black pepper notes. Enjoy with ratatouille or roast belly pork.
