Situated in the beautiful sweeping landscape of the northern Rhône and its steep granite hillsides lies Cave de Saint Désirat. The cellar was founded in 1960 and today works with 350 growers to produce a delectable range of Saint Josephs, as well vins de pays from just beyond the appellation boundary. Jancis Robinson MW praised 2019 St Joseph in the northern Rhône as showing "real quality". And you can taste it in this Syrah - very elegant with silken red fruits, herb and liquorice complexity. Very much Saint Joseph style at a very modest price. It's well structured too, so there's no hurry to drink it. Best opened an hour beforehand and decanted. Then it's great at a barbecue or with slow braised lamb shanks or a rich casserole.
