Château Haut-Reys 2018

Graves AOC

Bordeaux's Graves is best known for Cabernet focused reds and oaked whites. Château Haut-Reys, however, is a ripe, silky red using largely Merlot. From a particularly delicious vintage, this family estate red has generous fruit and is terrific value.

You can't go wrong with petit château Bordeaux in the superb 2018 vintage. Writer (and winemaker) Gavin Quinney wrote, "2018 is an excellent vintage for red Bordeaux, with powerful, rich and opulent wines across most appellations." You can spend a great deal of money on clarets from the classed growths or opt for wines from the many petits château properties of the region. Château Haut Reys offers particularly good value. It was acquired by the Gabin family in 1997. They have poured much time and investment into the estate, restructuring the vineyards and updating the cellar. And as their family has grown, so has their range of attractive wines. Unusually for the Graves, their red is made largely from Merlot and is silky, elegant and long.

"Silky, elegant Bordeaux from this fabulous vintage. Impressive value" Jennie Perry
