Situated in the very south of Navarra, close to Rioja, Pago de Cirsus was founded in 1997 by famous Spanish movie maker Iñaki Núñez. He first renovated a 16th century building in Navarra, making it a plush hotel, then built a state of the art winery and planted a 137 hectare vineyard that’s now 20 years old. He sold it in 2014 to Alejandra Gomez and the upward trajectory continues. For 40+ years, Navarra has been a bastion of modern, fruit driven wines and the team at this bodega is no stickler for tradition – willing to adapt the rules to produce a wine of the highest quality. This is a sumptuous, full bodied Tempranillo, aged for a year in nearly all French (20% American) oak. Serve with lamb or a rich haricot bean casserole.
