From the same family who brings you the renowned Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Château Daugay, this is a very appealing claret. It's from the excellent 2019 vintage that enjoyed lovely ripeness. Liquorice-scented red berry and plum with silky tannins.

The Grenié de Boüard family have been Bordeaux château owners for generations and today, Hélène Grenié and her husband Jean-Bernard are the proud owners of both Châteaux Daugay Grand Cru and Petit Pindefleurs, both in Saint-Emilion. The latter has vineyards on the most southerly and southwesterly slopes of the appellation, making the most of the fine limestone soils. Planted as you'd expect with nearly all Merlot, with just a small amount of Cabernet Franc, the vines are all treated very sustainably – certainly the impetus right across Bordeaux today. This appealing and generous 2019 has classic liquorice and red berry and plum fruit, with a herbal hint and velvety tannins. Open early to enjoy now or cellar. A classic with roast meats.
