Alvaro Palacios was born into the world of wine - one of nine children to the owners of Rioja's renowned Palacios Remondo. Instead of remaining in the comfort of Rioja, he decided to go further afield, first studying in Bordeaux, then training for two years at the world famous Château Pétrus. Here he worked under the guidance of Jean Pierre Moueix, whom he credits with much of his philosophy in winemaking. He returned to Spain in the late 1980s, choosing the much neglected, steeply terraced schistous soils of Priorat as his destination. He bought his first property, Finca Dofí, in 1989 and his crown jewel, L'Ermita, in 1993. Dense Garnacha, blended with Cabernet and Syrah, all barrel aged in part new oak. Open early and decant.
