Matt Thomson has worked over 40 vintages in the 24 years he’s been a winemaker. He’s travelled around the globe and consulted for some of the most famous names in the business, but finally he decided to make wine for himself. His 'Blank Canvas' is the vineyard, he says, the grape his brush. A fan of the Austrian grape Grüner Veltliner, Matt encouraged his friend the grower Malcolm Adams to plant it. The results are superb. 2015 is Matt’s second release of this wine and it matches the 2013 for award-winning note. 60% of it was fermented in large oak barrels, 20% of those new, and all aged 10 months on its lees. This brings extra creamy complexity and weight to the wine. Luscious, balanced and long – ideal with creamy white meat dishes.
