There is unanimous praise from critics for this exceptional vintage of the white from Château Margaux. Pure Sauvignon, yet it "feels like a great Montrachet. Opulent and rounded. Exotic and muscular" (Suckling, 99-100pts). Certainly one to tuck away.

Château Margaux is one of the very finest names of Bordeaux. Its illustrious history dates back to the 12th century, its original building destroyed in the 19th century and rebuilt in the classic style we are familiar with today. White wine at Château Margaux has been crafted since the end of the 17th century. Firstly as Château Margaux Vin de Sauvignon, but since 1920, as Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux. The grapes, all Sauvignon, come from an 11-hectare vineyard, too vulnerable to spring frosts for red grapes. Generally only a third of the crop, all Sauvignon Blanc, is used for Le Pavillon, so under 1000 cases are made each year. A mere 20% is matured in new French oak 300-litre barrels. "Sauvignon doesn't get much better" (J Dunnock).
