Château La Guarrigue 2018

Bordeaux AOC

Château La Guarrigue is a delicious example of modern claret. Full of generous, velvety, dark plum fruit with rounded tannins for structure to make it elegant, restrained and a perfect partner with food. And from 2018, it's deliciously ripe as well.

It's easy to spend a small fortune and buy Grand Cru Classé clarets that take years, sometimes decades, to show at their best. However, look into the many petit château properties in the less prestigious appellations, and you will find some real gems. And these gems are often not only good for drinking in their youth, but will also go the distance of two or three years in your cellar. Of course, part of the reason for this is climate change and riper grapes, but it's also modern methods. Take the ripe and forward Château La Guarrigue. It is pure Merlot, left longer on the vine to ripen. Not just the sugars, but every aspect, including the tannins. Gentle vinification and no oak, produces a lovely fruity Bordeaux. Panfried duck - ideal.

"At the petit château level, Bordeaux is producing such tremendous value today. Very appealing wines" Jennie Perry
