The Castaño family has always been considered a pioneer in the area, experimenting with the grape variety Monastrell to both create straight wines and blend it with other varieties, introducing the latest technology, not only in the vineyard but also in the winery, and implementing new quality systems that allow a more suitable winemaking.
Created by Ramon Castaño Santa and his 3 sons, Bodegas Castaño is not nearly as old as the vines it owns. Starting quite small, the family has nurtured old plantings and re-planted other parcels and now owns about 400 hectares (10% of the D.O.) in four prime vineyard estates
Bodegas Castaño, as it is known today for its entrepreneurial spirit, focus and vision
Only the oldest, low yielding Monastrell vines grown in the fierce climate of southern spain, the concentration of aroma and flavour is immediately apparent here
Tasting note:A weighty, intricate wine with the added complexity of oak ageing. Dark red with wild blackberry, plum, clove and cinnamon aromas. Supremely smooth and lengthy.
