Bodegas Castaño has been one of top wineries in the Yecla region for generations. They combine tradition with a pioneering spirit to make some really exciting wines. They own 410 hectares of nearly all Monastrell, grown at high altitude. You can taste that height in the freshness of their wines. This dark, spiced red uses pure Monastrell grapes from their prized 40-year-old bush vines – in the dry, arid soils of the region, only these will survive. They also promote superb flavour power too. A weighty, intricate wine with added complexity from oak ageing. With wild blackberry, plum, clove and cinnamon aromas, it's supremely smooth and lengthy. Supple enough to enjoy solo; a masterstroke with slow-cooked lamb shanks or an aubergine moussaka.
