Enjoy silky red fruit and toasty vanilla nuances in this fine South African Merlot. The grapes come from some of the best sites in cool climate Elgin, where they ripen slowly. This accounts for the elegance and lifted aromas of this oak-matured red.

Awards for the Boschendal Winery are numerous, with scores of medals, trophies and top marks every year. This historic property, founded 330 years ago, lies between Franschoek and Stellenbosch. Careful restoration over the last decade has made it a wonderful tourist destination, as well as a terrific place to search out great wine, both red and white. They have recently added 450,000 new fruit trees and invested in Black Angus cattle, sheep, goats and chickens. Flora and fauna conservation is a priority as well. This elegant, silky Merlot is from the cool, steep, south facing vineyards in Elgin, which ripen the grapes only slowly, while 18 months in French oak add subtle vanilla nuances to the fruit. A very fine red with roast meats.
