The Dampt brothers make exemplary Chablis at all levels but we were particularly taken with this one. It comes from the ‘Bréchain’ vineyard which was the very first vineyard planted by their father, so this is a wine that is very special to the family. Vignoble Dampt Frères is a true family run business run by brothers Eric, Emmanuel and Hervé. Eric is vineyard manager, Hervé tends the vines and Emmanuel oversees winemaking The Bréchain vineyard enjoys a unique location as it is next to the Montée de Tonnerre Premier Cru and opposite the Grand Cru Blanchot. However, this small plot is classified simply as Chablis and consequently, it’s significantly less expensive than its neighboursA small portion of the cuvee is aged in French oak barrels adding a creamy richness to the texture which works supremely well with the intense, concentrated fruit typical of this fine vineyard. Pale gold in colour with a minerality on the nose and concentrated green apple and citrus fruits. The palate is complex and rich with a long, fresh finish.
