There aren't many Chianti estates boasting a history back to 1408. It was first a simple farm, later run by Benedictine monks. Fast forward 600 years, and the grand property has had considerable investment in both the cellar and the perfectly situated 30 hectares of vineyard. It lies in Greve, a treasured Tuscan hamlet, producing some of Chianti's finest wines. Cafaggio also has two small vineyards dedicated to Bordeaux intruders Cabernet and Merlot. Basilica del Cortaccio is sourced purely from an organic vineyard of the same name, its pebbly, clay-loam soils ideal for Cabernet. Hand picking with 18 months ageing in fine French oak barrels and another year and a half in bottle, this is an exceptional red, only just beginning to unfurl.
