The Castaño family has always pioneered Monastrell in Yecla, experimenting with the variety, and producing warm climate wines grown at high altitude. They have been leading lights in putting the region on the map and have proven that the local grape is capable of making world-class wines. This sweet red is 100% Monastrell, grown on low-yielding, old, small bush vines on the sandy soils of the Yecula region Monastrell is perfectly adapted to the climate here and copes very well with the vast changes in temperatureThis has the lingering, sweet finish as well as the higher alcohol of a fortified wine. After fermentation, the wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for six months for greater complexity. Deep red colour with a terracotta coloured rim. The nose has deep black fruit notes alongside raisins, carob and black olives. Fresh and sweet on the palate, with marked plum jam and dried fig notes.
