Castello di Vicchiomaggio, a breathtaking 13th century winery in the heart of Tuscany, provides the perfect home for this stunning Chianti Classico Riserva. Vicchiomaggio’s outstanding reputation is built on a meticulous attention to detail. All the work is carried out by hand and yields are kept low to produce optimum quality grapes. The wines are carefully matured in the cellars beneath the castle in traditional large Italian oak casks known as ‘botte’. Only the very best fruit makes it into John Matta’s Riserva wines, where they spend two years maturing in these oak bottes. From the 5-star 2016 vintage, this is magnificent red, full of silky ripe cherry and layers of cedary complexity. It’s ideal with bistecca alla Fiorentina.
