Cave Saint Désirat Syrah 2015

If you’re a fan of silky Northern Rhône Syrahs like Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage, this deliciously affordable wine is for you. With first class winemaking from Saint-Joseph experts Cave Saint Desirat, it has lots of characteristic Northern Rhône black pepper spice and savoury complexity. But it actually comes from vineyards just outside Saint-Joseph, hence the great price.2015 was one of the best vintages for Northern Rhône of the last 50 years with Jancis Robinson calling it a “vintage not to be missed”. The grapes were carefully selected and hand-picked from vines grown on classic Northern Rhône granite soils where Syrah excels. Winemaker Jean-Luc Chaleat applies the same winemaking techniques as he does to his celebrated Saint-Josephs . Dark ruby in colour with aromas of spices and soft red fruits. There are lots of juicy bramble fruits on the palate combined with hints of spice, pepper and minerality from the granite soil and because it’s unoaked, has lovely freshness and a lightness of touch.
