Pure Syrah is the domaine of Crozes Hermitage, St Joseph and other pricy northern Rhône reds. The 2017 of this was described as "a bit of a bargain" by Wine Gang. It comes from just beyond the St Joseph limit and has silky fruit, herb and liquorice.

Bright red fruits, liquorice scents, black pepper, wild herbs
Situated in the beautiful sweeping landscape of the northern Rhône and its steep granite hillsides lies Cave de Saint Désirat. The cellar was founded in 1960 and today works with 350 growers to produce a delectable range of Saint Josephs, as well vins de pays from just beyond the appellation boundary. Jancis Robinson MW praised 2018 in the northern Rhône: "quality and complexity of flavour is very promising indeed". This Syrah is very elegant with silken red fruits, herb and liquorice complexity. It's well structured too, so there's no hurry to drink it. Very much Saint Joseph style at a very modest price. Great at a barbecue or with slow braised lamb shanks or a rich casserole. For now, best to open an hour beforehand and decant.
"If you love the Syrah reds of the northern Rhône, then this is a serious bargain. Delicious too"
