Situated in the beautiful sweeping landscape of the northern Rhône and its steep granite hillsides lies Cave de Saint Désirat. The cellar was founded in 1960 and today works with 350 growers to produce a delectable range of Saint Josephs, as well vins de pays from just beyond the appellation boundary. Jancis Robinson MW praised 2018 in the northern Rhône: "quality and complexity of flavour is very promising indeed". This Syrah is very elegant with silken red fruits, herb and liquorice complexity. It's well structured too, so there's no hurry to drink it. Very much Saint Joseph style at a very modest price. Great at a barbecue or with slow braised lamb shanks or a rich casserole. For now, best to open an hour beforehand and decant.
