The Cave de Lugny co-operative in Burgundy’s Mâconnais enjoys praises lavished upon it by even the loftiest of wine experts. Simply because, with its network of great white Burgundy growers, it produces affordable wines that punch well above their price for quality.
Lugny’s limestone-rich soils are a cut above the Mâcon’s average, producing Chardonnay of far greater length and finesse
The co-operative focusses on bringing out the freshness and quality of the fruit by carefully conducting fermentation in stainless steel
Their superb palette of growers means they are able to offer fair prices for grapes year on year, whilst producing excellent wines irrespective of vintage. (Although 2016 was fantastic!)
Tasting note: Beguiling aromas of fresh apples, soft pears and bright lemons. A rounded, very satisfying palate is scored through with lively acidity. Deliciously balanced wine that’s as wonderful sipped on its own as it is with a dish of seafood or chicken.
