Awarding Château Canon 2017 a huge 97 points, Antonio Galloni called it “a ravishing, exquisite wine of the highest level. In a word: breathtaking”. Wine Advocate awarded it 96 points: the “palate is wonderfully elegant and refined”. Those (and other) high scores reflect a rise in quality at this Premier Grand Cru Classé estate that’s sandwiched in by some of Saint Émilion’s top names, including Bel Air, Clos Fourtet and Beauséjour. The estate has enjoyed huge investment recently, yet prices have not risen to match, making Château Canon a very smart buy. The 2017 has blackcurrant, plums and spice aromas, leading to a palate of black fruit, cassis and spice, wrapped in lush tannins and a subtle texture. It will age beautifully.
