Gold for this mellow claret from the superb 2010 vintage. It's from a small family property, sandwiched between Margaux's Châteaux Siran, d'Issac and Dauzac. With a unique microclimate and gravel soils, it has produced this fine, long lived 2010.

This well positioned, 12-hectare property was formerly known as Château Maqueline, until 1989 when Willemijn de Cazenove von Essen purchased it. With the help of her children, they renovated the estate, replanted the vineyards (the original vines had died after the severe 1956 frost) and built a new cellar. They released their first vintage in 1991. Since then, they have built an excellent reputation for both quality and value, particularly in this part of Bordeaux, surrounded by the Haut Médoc. With a majority of Merlot, plus 35% Cabernet, matured gently in oak and with minimal handling (indeed, they also produce one totally natural wine), the wines are deliciously fruit driven and ample. Stand upright for a few hours in case of sediment.
