Pessac-Léognan is the top appellation of Bordeaux's Graves region, home to the renowned Haut-Brion. We aren't quite promising the quality of the Premier Cru, but this is a fine, fleshy claret from a very good vintage, now with five years' maturity.

Château Trigant offers a very fine Bordeaux, from an excellent vintage, already with appealing maturity. It's from Pessac-Léognan, a region that can boast of being home to Bordeaux's only Premier Cru outside the Haut-Médoc. It lies in the most northerly part of the Graves and directly south of Bordeaux city, and makes exceptional wines, both red and white (unusual in itself) despite having urban encroachment right on its doorstep. Château Trigant was founded in the 18th century, when a grand château was built by a Bordeaux lawyer, who went on to build Chartreuse. Since 1860, it's been in the Sèze family, but with under 4 hectares of vineyard, remains small. Using equal parts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it is a silky, elegant claret.
