Chakana is the brainchild of Juan Pelizatti who founded the estate in just 2002. It may be a relative newcomer but with the help of winemaker Alberto Antonini, (head winemaker at Tuscany’s famous Antinori estate for many years and one of the founders of the Super-Tuscan movement) Juan has put this estate firmly on the Argentina wine map. Chakana’s Torrontés vineyards lie in the premium Cafayate Valley, home to some of the highest vineyards in the world. The sunny days, cool nights and melting run-off from the Andes combine to make this a hotspot for the world’s best and most vibrant Torrontés.
Torrontés is the most famous white of Argentina and the best come from Cafayate Valley. Here, the grapes grow at extreme altitudes, with vineyards up to 2800 metres above sea level, giving the wines exceptional intensity and aromatic expression
Made from 100% Torrontés and fermented in stainless steel to preserve the aromatic qualities of Torrontés, it has a crystalline purity and pristine, fresh fruits
Chakana wines are extremely popular in America (no doubt thanks to Robert Parker, who’s a big fan), ands are not always easy to get hold of
Tasting note: Mouth-watering aromas of honeydew melon and orange blossom lead into a crisp, vibrant palate with pure, fresh fruits, hints of citrus peel and a racy, lime finish. Perfect with spicy seafood.
