The house of Laurent-Perrier was created in 1812 by Alphonse Pierlot and sold to the Nonancourt family in 1939. It has since become one of the most famous of the Grandes Marques (‘Big Name’) Champagnes. Nowadays it’s also the region’s largest family owned house. Ultra Brut was launched in the early 1980s by the late Bernard de Nonancourt, and was inspired by the success of the zero dosage (that is, no added sugar) Champagnes made by Laurent-Perrier in the 19th century. Very pure, fresh and racy with a Chablis-like mineral character and very fine, persistent bubbles, this is a classic dry apéritif and celebration wine, also partnering canapés and shellfish to perfection. Beautifully presented in a gift box, it’s ideal if you want to impress.
