Enthusiastic and always passionate, Michel Chapoutier is one of the Rhône's most famous characters. Since he took control of this long-established firm in 1988, quality has soared. Chapoutier now produces the most diverse and complex wines to be found in the northern Rhône. They are particularly well-known for their remarkable Hermitage and Crozes Hermitage wines. Named after its original owner, Les Meysonniers is made purely by organic methods, using fruit from 25-year-old vines. Pure Syrah, it's a fine, expressive red with elegant raspberry and cassis fruit with a herbal lift. It is nearly all aged in vat, with just 15% going into barrel, so the fruit really sings out. Open early and decant. A fine match for roast meats or casserole.
