Château Beauséjour-Bécot 2019

Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe AOC

Beauséjour-Bécot boasts one of the best vineyard sites in Saint-Emilion – on a high limestone plateau just west of the old town. This natural advantage and the great age of the vines contribute to this 94-point wine’s complex fruit and lavish depth.

The medieval town of Saint-Emilion is the epicentre of what is “currently Bordeaux’s most seismic wine region” (Hugh Johnson, The World Atlas of Wine). And just behind its most famous estate, Ausone, you find the perfectly situated vineyards of Beauséjour-Bécot. This is exemplary Saint-Emilion and one of the elite Premiers Grands Crus. Although it was controversially demoted in 1985 following the purchase of additional vineyards, it was quickly reinstated to its rightful place. Aged for 16 months in over half new oak barrels and with its many high scores from critics, the 2019 vintage is clearly a fine release from this property. It displays ripeness, richness and elegant balance. To enjoy now decant a couple of hours early, or cellar.

"Aromas of cassis, wild berries, raw cocoa, spices and loamy soil. Ample and fleshy, it's deep" William Kelley
